Spontaneous reboot problem

Guest

I recently upgraded to SP2, and around the same time started having problems
with spontaenous rebooting. I can find no pattern to it, but about once or
twice a day my screen just instantly goes black and the computer reboots as
if the power was interupted. I have two other computers in the house, and
neither of them have their power interupted, so I don't thinks its a house
power problem.

I've also replace the power supply on my PC, I have a 480 WAT power supply
so I don't think there's any reason why I my power supply should be failing.

I have uninstalled SP2 as a test, but the spontaneous reboots still occur.

I'm clueless, anybody out there got any idea what's happening?

Hi Thom,

Could be a number of things, but the reboot occurs because WinXP is set to
automatically restart on system failure. Disabling this behavior will
produce a stop error or "blue screen" when it happens. The information in
the stop error is vital to resolving the issue. Go to the control
panel/system/advanced tab, and click on the startup and recovery options. In
the system failure block, uncheck the option to automatically restart. Click
apply/ok and reboot if prompted. Then simply wait for it to happen again and
post back here with the details.
