I am trying to help a friend solve an annoying problem (the partially
sighted leading the blind :-) ).

He has Windows Home with SP1 but not SP2.

During the bootup sequence when the XP Home logo appears it is moved a third
of the way up the screen.
The desktop displays normally as do desktop windows.

However, when he runs games that use full screen mode, usually but not
always, the bottom two thirds of the display appears at the top of the
screen and the top third at the bottom of the screen. This is obviously what
is happening in the case of the start-up logo but since the background is
black it is not so clear there.

This makes games rather tricky to play!

The problem has manifested itself since PC World changed the mother board.
Google and Google Group searches have produced nothing. However, I am sure
this newsgroup can help ...

Look at your monitor controls. You'll need to find a partial screen program so you can see the results of your adjustments. Read the monitor manual.

If you have a flat-screen (LCD) monitor, wait until the Windows XP logo
(with the moving bar at the bottom) comes up. Hit auto-adjust on the
monitor. This should fix your settings automatically.

Another way: Start, Run, "cmd". When the DOS window comes up, Press
Alt+Enter. Adjust it at this point. Hit Alt+Enter to go back to a window.

I got a call from a friend of mine this weekend, saying the same thing. It
only happens when she tries to play " Pop Cap Games". They are the same
games she has been playing for at least a year, and all of a sudden, the
split screen started, Including the Window's splash screen. I cannot find
any info on it either. Drawing a blank. She say's that she's got the SP2
pack for XP. The only thing I've found that can do this is in the
accesability tab under accessories, "magifier" but would think it would
affect everything, not just games or a splash screen. If anyone finds an
answer please let us know.
