Split screen projected image

When using a projector with my Toshiba laptop to present Powerpoint slides, I
get a "split screen" image through the projector, even though the image on my
laptop display is fine. I think this is a problem with a display setting on
my laptop, but I can't find anything that looks incorrect. It's not just an
issue when displaying Powerpoint slides, but all images, including the
desktop appear that way through the projector. Can anyone help?

The screen resolution on the second monitor should be set to a 4:3 ratio
instead of a wide screen one.
