How does one change the splash graphic in Windows 2000.
Someone inadvertantly got a Santa Claus graphic as the
opening graphic before the wallpaper displays and now
wants it removed. How? This same graphic appears when
using Novell Intranetware client and locking the
workstation. Cannot find a logo.sys or similar to remove.

If you're talking about the main splash screen (with the blue progress
bar) while Win2K loads, there are two possibilities:

1. The original NTOSKRNL.EXE has been modified, or

2. The original NTOSKRNL.EXE has been copied, modified, and
boot.ini is now pointing to the modified kernel.

First check the client's boot.ini file. If you see a "/kernel=<filename>"
switch then remove this switch. (You'll need to remove boot.ini's file
attributes before editing and saving.) Also delete the modified kernel
to which the switch points.

If there is no "/kernel=" switch in boot.ini then the original ntoskrnl.exe
has been modified. Cleanup in that case is a little more complicated.

Turn OFF Active Desktop, THEN set the Background wallpaper to None and
apply, Then re-enable your Active Desktop.

Good step by step here.
