spell checker language

Not wanting to denigrate any of my American friends out there, I find it
strange that windows mail no longer has the option to adjust the language in
the spell checker to Australian or UK english. There are many words in the
english language that are not spelled the same way as Americans do. In former
versions of the email package there were options for which version of english
was being used. Is anyone aware of how to adjust this accordingly?

All you can do is add the correct spellings by clicking add when
a real word is detected.

That's a shame. I would have thought that this option would still be available, being a so called "upgraded" version of the email package. Suppose I'll just have to type more carefully from now on.

In a few days, apparently, there'll be a super-duper new Email application
released to replace WM and all problems will disappear like morning mist.

If nothing else, the problem set will be different, so you and I won't get bored. [VBG]

Actually I'm not so optimistic.
I expect the majority of the problems,
excluding those fixed by WMutil,
will be exactly the same.

i.e.
People who can't be bothered seek out the ISP's websites
to obtain server details, and people who can't be bothered
to check Google for answers and last but not least those
to thick to use the help facilities built into their OS's and
applications.

Oh.. I forgot those who find searching this group, to find
if their problem has already been raised, completely
beyond or beneath them.

Hi Julian,

Don't forget that there are those few newbies out there that just don't
know better. Remeber how it was when you first started with computers.
Patience is a virtue, only sometimes a baseball bat helps. (haha)

When I started using computers
I wasn't even allowed in the same room as one.
Everything was done on paper and card... coding sheets etc.

Now by the time a user gets to this forum they have ignored countless
"help" buttons and "support" tabs, not to mention the simple
documentation that comes with new pc's.

ps. Aluminum bats will do the job most economically
since wooden ones are liable to shatter on numbskulls.

Thanks to those who have replied to my thread. I can only assume that once the powers that be at MicroSoft have figured out a fix to this obvious oversight, will include this in their scheduled updates for this "fantastic" new operating system??? Sarcasm aside, I don't think I've ever had to spend so much time sorting out problems with my pc as a result of upgrading the operating system, as I have had to with windows vista. In some respects, I regret having "upgraded" from XP. Hope that some techo nerd at MS is monitoring this thread and takes note of this and all the other problems reported

Personally, I think that anyone who upgrades to an operating system,
even if there hadn't been widespread publicity about potential problems
in an upgrade as opposed to a clean install, so soon after its release
is being extremely reckless unless there was an inescapable need
for the new OS. I'd be interested in your motive for upgrading so soon?

It was not a matter of choice I can assure you. It was very much a case of
purchasing a new HP laptop that came with the system already loaded (vista
ultimate) and then discovering all the glitches.

Having said this, I live in hope that it doesn't take Microsoft as long to
sort out the problems with Vista, that it took them with XP. If discussions
groups like this remain active and are monitored, then there's hope for all
us less "literate" souls out there in cyberland and we may all have some
light at the end of the tunnel.

Ah... your "I regret having "upgraded" from XP" suggested otherwise.
My apologies offered.

BTW HP can, and do, supply XP.

It may worth trying to get HP to supply an XP disc and getting
M$ to activate it. I believe that if you are licensed for Vista you may
also be licensed for XP although not simultaneously.

Then swap back to Vista next year.

That is speculation but perhaps worth a phone call.
