Spell check unavailable in Putlook Express 6.0

The Spell Check option is greyed out Outlook Express. The
OS is XP and machine Dell Inspiron laptop. Does anyone
have an idea how to get this installed? I understand the
same spell checker also works in MS Office (Word). When I
go into Tools and Options Spelling isn't among the
options. Any ideas?
