Outlook Express Spell Check

I realize this newsgroup is for Outlook but I can't find a
heading for Outlook Express. I have a new Dell XPS system
with Outlook Express 6 on it. The spell check was grayed
out because you need to have one of three other Microsoft
programs loaded as Outlook Express uses their spell
checker. I added Microsoft Word and Excel (both of which
should work) but still no spell check. I went
into "tools>options" but there is no "spelling" tab (as
there is on my other computer where the spell checker is
active). I rebooted the computer but still no spell
checker. Do I need to reload Outlook Express to get it to
recognize Word or Excel or is there another answer? Thanks
for any help anyone can provide.
