spell check is working intermittently in Word document

I am in a document and spellcheck was working in the beginning and is no
longer working. I have done a Select All and gone into languages and ensured
that Do Not Check Spelling or Grammar is not checked. There are clearly
mispelled words.

I got a message sometimes that it could not find certain files. But it
works fine in the first part of the document.

I have Word 2002.

Try clicking on Tools | Options | Spelling & Grammar | Check
Document. If spell check still doesn't work, then press Ctrl+A
to select all of the text, click on Tools | Language | Set
Language | <choose your language> | uncheck the "Detect language
automatically" and "Do not check spelling or grammar" boxes |
Default | OK, and press F7 to rerun spelling and grammar checks.
