Spell Check does not work in Word 2007

I just installed Microsoft Office 2007 Pro. Obvious words can be misspelled
such as JSJSdjk or akdkj jas, and Word does not catch them: neither on "as
you type", not when I do a spell check. It was working before I upgraded from
Home & Student Trial.

*Editing Language is set to English (United States). English United States
is the ONLY language selected as the computer language under control panel -
regional settings
*On Word Options - Proofing, the top 4 boxes are checked under both of the
first two categories. "Hide spelling errors.." "Hide grammar errors..." are
NOT checked.
*Grammar mistakes ARE caught.

I saw that there were other posts about this same problem. Since none of
them had been resolved, I thought I would add my own.

Has anyone come up with a fix?

What you haven't specified is whether the language of the text in question
is English (U.S.). Select the text itself and go to Review | Proofing | Set
Language and make sure that the correct language is selected and that the
box for "Do not check spelling or grammar" is *clear* (not checked or
greyed).

Thanks for your help. Yes the text is in English. Selected all text, went to
Review-Proofing- and set language to English (United States). "Don not check
spelling or grammar" is unchecked.

I think it must be a glitch in the program as others are experiencing
exactly the same frustrations.

I should also mention that I tried "diagnose and repair", tried to repair
from the installation CD, went to "Word Options" and used the dignose
function there...the problem persisted.
