Speed of beginning Word

I have been experiencing a slow processing time when I want to enter my WORD 2000 application program, or call up a document generated in WORD 2000.
Is there any way I can speed it up? I have Windows XP Home Editon Version 2002, Service Pack 1 installed, along with Works. I also have a Notron anit-virus program activated in automatic.
The computer I'm using has a Pentium 4 Processor, 1500 Mhz, with 128 MB RAM.

Hi, Rev LRL. Try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with Norton Antivirus. The option for this is usually in something like Start | Programs | Norton | Options | Miscellaneous.

Garfield's appeared to work; I'm don't know about Graham's. I looked at that web site, and am a little confused by it...

There are two add-ins that cause Word users far too much trouble - one is
the Norton AV Office plug-in, as posted by garfield, the other is the Works
add-in. The link I posted is an illustration of one of its many problems,
but contains the information on how to remove it.

Thank you Garfield. I have been wracking my brain over this. Taking online
classes, you have no idea how irritating it was trying to type my papers on
my laptop. I had to use my desktop just to ensure I completed my last paper
on time. After reading this, I remember just recently having had to make
adjustments to my Norton and this was one of the adjustments I made. It is
disabled now and I'm off and running to speedy paper completions once again!
