Speaker settings reset

Hey.. been having this problem with XP SP1 for a while
now.
Every so often (quite often at that) the speaker settings
reset. I mean where it is set to "5.1 Surround Sound"
under Advanced - this commonly switches to Quadraphonic
or Desktop Stereos.
Anyone else had this problem, or know a workaround?
Also - if anyone knows the registry key that sets this I
could write a program to reset it every so often as a
last resort.

I found that a certain 3D game was resetting my quad sound setting to
dual. You might zero in on the culprit by checking before/after running
apps. If you can't change the culprit, you gotta live with resetting it. My
sound software allows tray icon though I do not use it, maybe this is why.
