speaker settings

How do I set the default speaker setting to 5.1 speakers? Every time I reboot
or startup in Windows XP the setting is reset to "desktop speakers" as the
default.

I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, and the software is properly installed. I
even set the speaker settings to 5.1 in both the windows control panel and
the Audigy speaker settings, but when I reboot, they are both reset to 2
desktop speakers. I have looked through all the "help" for the audigy and
windows, but can't find a way to set 5.1 as my default setting or at least
set it so that it will remain after reboot.

Did you by chance download the updates from Creative ? I notice after a few
resetting in the "THX Setup Console " it finally stay intact to 5.1 , Did
you view the THX Setup Console ? Because that where you would apply the 5.1
..... Here below is Creative website and you can get the updates
