I upgraded to Win 2000 Pro. After the install the speakers
did not work. i would get a message about the ".wav" files
missing, audio input missing or configured incorrectly,
the CD player would not work and so on. I installed a new
sound card and bought new speakers, both 2000 compatible.
I can now here the windows audio,(like when windows loads
and a program opens), through the speakers but still
cannot hear the cd player(however, it now will play the
CD, I just can't hear it). Everything looks to be fine, i
checked the device manager for everything related to the
sound. Can you help me?

when you installed the new sound card, did you hook up the analog
CD cable too, if not that is quite possibly the problem when listening
to CDs....its a separate small cable, that takes the analog sound from
your CD-ROM drive, which most applications use, or you could try to use
digital CD audio, by setting the preference in your choice program, if
it has such option, Winamp does, Windows Media Player 8 or 9 does
also.....just a few ideas

hope they help...
