Speaker Icon keeps disappearing from Taskbar

The speaker Icon keeps disappearing from the taskbar.
I go to control panel/sound and audio devices, and the check is there.
If I unclick it, then click it again, and apply, the speaker icon reappears
back in the tast bar.

When I reset the computer it disappears again, then I have to do the same
thing to get it back.

The sound and everything works correctly, with the exception of it
disappearing everytime it restarts..

thanks

This is Windows hiding inactive icons on you. What this means is if Windows
notices that you have an icon in the status area of the taskbar, but it
doesn't change and you never click on it, it hides it.

There are two ways around this. First, you can click the little button with
an a < on it that shows up next to the status area. This will show all the
hidden buttons and you can use it. If you continue to use it, it won't be
hidden.

You can also right click in the Status Area and choose Properties. From
here you can either uncheck "Hide inactive icons" which will stop it from
hiding any, or choose "Customize". In the customization dialog you can tell
it just to never hide the sound one, but to still hide the others.

Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem with my Dell Notebook computer...not only with
the sound icon on the task bar but many different icons. It's kind of a
crap shoot in terms of what icons will show up on my task bar when I boot
up. I can manually put things on the task bar...but they disappear again
even though I've made the changes on the computer so that they should never
be hidden. It's driving me nuts. I've visited several web sites and self
help areas...and nothing has helped. Most give the usual answer to such
problems...but I've tried all the usual fixes. So...if you find a fix for
this, let me know.

Hi
On mine there is no error message. It just keeps disappearning from the task
bar. Though When I look in control panel the check mark is still in place on
show speaker icon in task bar,

Thanks, Kelly....I'll give it a try. The first link is something that I've
already tried. The second link contains some things that I need to look at
to see if it addresses the problem I have and fixes it.

Bruce...

I have the same problem....but it's not just the sound icon, it's others as
well. I'm going to try the second link provided by Kelly and see if I can
resolve it that way.
