How can I get rid of all this SPAM everyday without changing my email address?
It's relly ridiculous. I have a spam butcher but I still have to delete those.
It would be ideal if I could find a tool that would let me block them. But,
as you know, these reciprocating email addresses change constantly.
Thank you,

Hi - this isn't really the best group for your question, as Windows XP is
not a mail client.

Much depends on what software you actually use for e-mail - it's hard to
make any suggestions without making wild-a__ guesses.

That said, SpamBayes works well for many people - and/or your ISP/mail host
may have some spam-filtering options that take care of a lot of junk before
it even hits your computer.

Thank you,

Suggest you search for spam blocker on google. Also, as suggested, check
outlook (or outlook express) newsgroups.

Re: free software. I had some success with spampal but it takes some work
to configure.

Note:: Some antispam programs give you the option of immediate deletion
which means you can miss some important email. The althernative is to have
the potential spam dumpted in to a special folder where you can review and
delete it at your convenience. Note that blocking is not by email
addresses that change but by content, key words, form, etc. Also by source
(you can block a whole country).

Good luck.

I never understood the mentality of spammers, or the people who help
perpetuate them.
Obviously, there is money in it, or else why would they do it.
On the other hand, are there that many imbeciles who would order products
from people who appear that they can't even spell what they are selling!??!?

I have two email accounts that I never provide to any online service and
only email people that won't share my email address - the ID is not a
name or anything that represents a name, and in 4 years I've never
received a single spam to them. I'm not saying I don't get spam at other
email addresses or other ID's on that same domain name, but you might
want to consider a non-standard name like (e-mail address removed) instead.

At this point, now that all of the spammers are selling their mailing
lists to one another, you probably can't.

It's relly ridiculous. I have a spam butcher but I still have to delete those.

While it's not possible to completely eliminate spam (unsolicited
commercial email), there are some precautions and steps you can take to
minimize it's impact:

1) Never, ever post your real email address to publicly accessible
forums or newsgroups, such as this one. For years now, spammers have
been using software utilities to scan such places to harvest email
addresses. It's a simple matter to disguise your posted email address
so that these software "bots" can't obtain anything useful. For
example, insert some obviously bogus characters or words into your reply
address, for example: "(e-mail address removed)."

2) Never, ever reply to any spam you receive, even to "unsubscribe" or
"remove" yourself from the spammers' address lists; you'll only compound
the problem. If spammers had any intention of honoring the your desire
not to receive spam, they wouldn't have become spammers in the first
place. When you reply to a spammer, all you're doing is confirming that
he/she has a valid, marketable email address.

3) Be especially leery of any offers from websites for free software,
services, information, etc, that require your email address, or that
require your email address so you can "login" to access the offered
service and/or information. Many such sites are supplementing their
income by collecting addresses to sell to the spammers. For instance,
subscribing to CNN.COM's Breaking News Service will garner you a lot of
additional spam. (Of course, not all such sites have under-handed
motives; it's a judgment call. If the offer seems "too good to be
true," it's most likely a scam.)

4) DO forward any and all spam, with complete headers, to the
originating ISP with a complaint. Not all ISPs will make an effort to
shut down the spammers, but many will. One tool that makes forwarding
such complaints fairly simple is SpamCop (http://spamcop.net).

4) Another useful tool is MailWasher (http://www.mailwasher.net). This
utility allows you to preview your email before downloading it from the
server. Spammers can even be blacklisted, so that any future emails
from them will be automatically deleted from the server.

5) Within Outlook Express, add any spammers to your Blocked Senders
list, so the their messages are automatically deleted from the server
without being downloaded to your PC.

Thank you,

There are some very good posts here about what to do in the FUTURE. I'm not
sure they help you with your current spam problem.

Perhaps it is time to change your email address

First, email those in your contact list about the change. Check your "in
box" for additional names. There may be certain subscriptions, etc. that
you want to change.

Depending on your software and provider, you can reply to all received email
with a message that your new address is (supply address) and delete the
email. Real people will receive your response and change their contact
list.

Ultimately, drop the auto reply and the spamming will stop.

Stop SPAM and other malware! Create two mail rules in OE.

_First rule:_

A. In "Select the conditions for your rule" click "Where the from line
contains people", click "contains people", click Address Book, click
the first name, shift-click the last, click "From" button, click OK.

B. In "Select the actions for your rule", click "Stop processing more
rules". This will let everyone in your address book fall through to
your Inbox.

C. Name the rule "Pass".

_Second rule:_

A. In "Select the conditions for your rule" click "For all messages"

B. In "Select the actions for your rule", click "Delete it".

C. Name the rule "Delete".

This deletes the unwanted emails to the Deleted Items folder; it doesn't
permanently delete anything. You might want to set OE to delete the
Deleted Items folder every time you close OE, but one disadvantage: You
could have to close OE in a hurry sometimes before you have a chance to
check for missed messages.

Advantages:

1. No SPAM or other malware! No amount of filtering by sender or
subject matter will prevent spammers; they use a different subject and
address every few days. But this setup prevents ALL SPAM from
fictitious addresses.

2. Few Viruses! Only viruses from those who have your email address in
their address book.

3. The biggest advantage, after checking through subject lines in the
Deleted Items folder, you can delete all the spam, etc. without viewing
them. Right-click "Deleted Items", click "Empty Deleted Items folder".
This way, short of viewing the first email in the list, no other email
is actually opened.

Disadvantages:

1. You'll have to look in the Deleted Items folder for blocked email. If
you find a mail you actually want, just drag it into the Inbox till you
add that address to the Pass filter.

2. To add addresses to the filter, you'll have to edit it, click
"contains people", click "Address Book" again, and add any new
addresses. That can be an occasional nuisance, but otherwise you'll be
creating many mail rules for SPAM.

You can create a SPAM folder and send the blocked emails there, rather
than select the "Delete it" option. Occasionally look in the folder for
missed mails, then delete the remainder to the "Deleted Items" folder.
(Press Shift/Delete to bypass the Deleted Items folder.)

Or, you can download and use Mozilla Thunderbird that has an excellent,

Both your method and the previous persons methods fail to meet the
stated requirement - the op doesn't want to have to DELETE spam.

The only method is to get an ISP/Mail service that deletes/removes spam
as soon as it arrives or to change email addresses, create a strong user
name for account 1 and create a throw-away for account 2, use account 2
when providing info to questionable sites, user account 1 for providing
info to trusted sites.

That used to work but the spammers have gotten smarter. I've gotten spam
in email accounts that I have never used for anything!

No, you still have to filter through it to determine if it was properly
marked as spam.

Most err on the side of letting spam through, but seem to catch 80% of
it. Also, many also white list anyone you send to, so that prevents a
lot of false positives.

Notice I didn't say what you said - I said use a strong ID, and that
means something that doesn't fit the dictionary attack methods. I even
requested (in writing) that my ISP not provide my information to any of
their partners or any other company they work with.

A variation on my method CAN block spam at the server; I just don't
suggest it. You have to "leave the mail on the server", and delete all
mail from the server after downloading individual emails that "pass".
But this doesn't allow a person to look at the subject lines before
closing OE and having the Deleted Items folder deleted.

If the OP really wants to block spam at the server, that would do it. I
actually use my ISP's spamblocker. After about 180 "Allowed" filters, I
use the * "Block" filter.

Permit Content *clvck*
Permit Headers *clvck*
Permit Subject *clvck*

Block Content *

But I get a report with the 60-or-so spam senders so I can see if I
missed anything. If so, I write the email address, and request they
email me again. I add their email address to the "Allowed" list.
