Registry value keeps resetting

T

Terry R.

I have a utility, MBtn2dblclickVC. There is a registry value to enable
the double click. On every boot, the value is changed to zero. I tried
removing all groups and user names except mine, but on each boot they
return. I've copied and removed permissions to no avail. I've even
denied permissions and it's still reset.

Does anyone have a suggestion to keep this value set at 1?

Thanks,

Please explain. Why do you need a utility to enable double click? Doesn't
your mouse driver provide that?

Just shooting in the dark here:

What double-click is it trying to set? The System mouse click, or from
within a program? It's unclear what you are trying to mod here.
What is the name of the registry key?

Spend some time investigating what programs you have installed; do any
of them have the ability to control the 1 or 2 click? I'm referring to
3rd party stuff.

Do you have your mouse set for single click? Try changing it to
double & see if the program cares about the mouse's system setting.

Like I said; just shots in the dark; I think more specific information
is needed to make any reasonable guesses. There are various ways of
getting at the click settings in both the system and in programs.

I don't use any of those. I can make changes elsewhere that stick.
It's just this one utility that is defaulted to off on boot. I can
re-enable it from the System tray or from the registry, but it's off
again next time. I found one other report of someone with the same

getting reset each boot, I can't think of what else to do.

The Logitech mouseware software has an issue with Quicken and
infrequently with other programs regarding scrolling. The latest
versions of SetPoint do too. It didn't happen with my last Logitech
mouse but I had to replace it and the new one does. So I removed the
Logitech software and found this utility that only enables the double
click on the wheel, so everything else works properly. But the registry
value isn't sticking like it should.

The utility enables a double click of the wheel. The registry key is
the same name as the utility and the String value key is Enabled, 1
being on, 2 being off. It sits in the System tray and the dialog to
enable and run at startup, but it's disabled on each boot.

I don't use the Logitech software any longer. I recently replaced the
mouse and scrolling didn't work in some programs. So uninstalling the
software fixed the scrolling issue and I found the utility to enable a
double click.

Let me see if I have this right:
-- You are not using the Logitek software that came with the mouse.
-- You are useing MBtn2dblclickVC which requires you to wite code to
make the mouse work according to the web site.

I'm going to make a WAG that you borked the code, the code shown is
wrong, or something else in your system is interfering with it.

IMO there are way too many pieces of the picture missing to give any
assistance in this matter. Have you checked with the folk at the
MBtn2dblclickVC site?

Sorry; I can't help any further.
My mouse works perfectly that way, depending on what i have the middle
button set to do.

I'm sorry, maybe you don't understand how a delimiter works with a
faulty MS mail client. In YOUR post you replied ABOVE my quote.
Because you're using an MS mail client that IMPROPERLY inserts a
delimiter in your sig when top posting, my mail client (that properly
removes anything below the delimiter) caused everything below your reply
to be removed. And the REAL kicker is this; MS clients add a delimiter
incorrectly when top posting, but DON'T remove anything below the
delimiter when replying, like a proper newsreader does. Go figure.

It doesn't do any good asking users of these faulty MS mail clients to
either stop using a sig (which inserts the delimiter), or top posting,
OR use QUOTEFIX which fixes the bug. Because most people take it
personally and get upset, when really the issue is just the bug in OE/WM.

But to answer your question, no, I didn't state I don't have an AV
program. I said, "I don't use any of those (that you mentioned)." I
use AntiVir.

I can make other changes to the registry that stick. It's just this one
key that keeps getting reset, regardless of what I do.

Just because it's an MS group doesn't mean ANY newsreader is a
"default". I'm surprised you would even make a comment like that.

But the reality is that you DID change something. Your last 3 posts to
me do NOT have a sig with the delimiter, which has corrected the issue
you accused me of (snipping the thread). You can see for yourself the
difference, as nothing has been removed like your first post that
contained your sig and the delimiter at the top.

I do appreciate you doing that if not on a permanent basis, just in the
conversation we had.
