Spam email

Can some one tell me how, by simply loading a web page,
the owner ( or author ) of that page gets my email address
and other user information about me? This is not the first
time this has happened and I am getting fairly sick of
changing my email account information. First of all, I
NEVER fill out or provide any information about myself or
my email address. I will simply visit web pages that
relate to my interests and in a matter of hours, a brand
new never used email account is slammed with spam emails.
It never stops. You must trust me and I am telling you in
no uncertain terms that I have never done anything to
provide these people with my email addresses ( with the
exception of this posting which I am sure will now only
multiply the problem 10 fold, God I hope it's worth it! ).
All I do is go to a web page after creating or changing a
new email account for myself, and like magic, the spam
comes pouring in. This happens over and over again. My
machine is a Windows 2000 Pro Box running Outlook 2000.
The machine is fully patched and behind a firewall ( Multi-
homed Windows 2000 Server running IPsec ). I would really
appreciate some info to help prevent this from happening
over and over again. If it's not my Browser then how are
they doing it? Can this be stopped? Please reply. Thank

Hi,

If your security settings are low, or you have been infected with Adware, or
a virus, you may be automatically feeding company's your email without knowing.

You may first want to consider a virus scan. Trend offers a free, online,
virus scan at:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Once you are sure that you do not have any virus, move on to the adware.
Programs such as AdAware, and CWShredder detect and remove adware automatically.
Many adware products do not come with uninstallation guides, so third party
products are necessary to rid yourself of such programs.

After downloading and installing both these programs, be sure to update
them! It's important to update them so as to ensure yourself the best protection
available.

You should also set your internet explorer settings to medium-high:

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. On the file menu, click on Tools, then Internet Options.
3. Click on the Privacy Tab.
4. Move the slider to 'medium-high'.
5. Click on OK.

This should remove the possibility of infection as a cause for your email to be
comprimised.

Note that some sites sell email lists, and if you are subscribed to a newsgroup,
you should ask for that sites privacy policy.

From your post it's easy to see or make your E-mail address
(e-mail address removed)
To make it fool proof use (e-mail address removed)
That address I'm sure is not a read address and no way for any one to try
yours at comcast.net.
