SP3

Someone here said that eventually we would need SP3.
I'd like to know why we would need it. I have held off downloading it
because it seems so risky.

The first question most tech support asks is: Are you up-to-date in
Windows Updates?

Seems SP2 will no longer be supported after July 2010, 24 months after
SP3 release. So you got some time. However some applications may
start requiring what is in SP3 long before that date. But you're safe
till you hit that issue.

IMO if you make an image backup of your system and then follow all the
advice of MS like turn off AV software and firewalls, and disconnect
from the internet, and download the service pack, don't do it from
auto-updates, you have a better chance of surviving the update.

I did it on 3 PC's and had no issues.

you need RDP soon and has not turned it on, be sure to turned it before
apply sp3
you can always turn it off afterwards

I apply to 3 PC, every pc works except for the one that did no have rdp
turned on before and now I can't rdp in no matter what. even with the
proper setting and the service running properly. no rdp connection
possible., even with the firewall turned off
