SP3 not offered in Microsoft Update

Microsoft Update on my desktop PC offered me XP SP3 so I installed it.
Then I went to my old laptop, an IBM T30, but Microsoft Update didn't
offer SP3.

Is there a way to find out why this might be? If there's a good reason
why SP3 is not being offered on the laptop then I'd prefer to know why,
before I apply SP3 via the ISO image that I just downloaded.

It's entirely possible that my employer has blocked the application of
SP3 to my laptop, but then I'd expect the same block to apply to my
desktop. They both come from the same stable.

What exactly is the version of XP installed?

Does your laptop meet these General Requirements:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsxp/cc164204.aspx

See also Prerequisites to Install Windows XP SP3
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717/

It is not offered if you have the IE8 Beta installed.

I don't know how exact you need. My "System" object says:
Microsoft Windows XP/Professional/Version 2002/Service Pack 2
IBM Client for e-business/Windows XP version 2.07/
Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R)/4 - M CPU 1.80GHz/
1.20 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

Yes, as shown above and a "dir c:\" showing ~22Gb free

Seems mostly OK
It is not offered if you have the IE8 Beta installed.

Darn! Wish I'd read that first. Thanks.
I wonder if IE8 can be re-installed on an SP3 system. One way to find out!

It's covered in page 1 of the Release Notes. It can be reinstalled after
the SP3 update has been installed.
