SP2??

Divine powers not necessary, basic reading is.
Did you read Mary Alice post?
Apparently not.

How about the first line?
"Preparation my Axx!!"

How about the last two lines?
"Automatic Update implies, they would have NO idea that preparation,
of any sort/kind, was not only recommended but demanded prior to sp2
install."

She wrote about preparation.
Whether you see it or not, it is still there.

Again - How do you get from the poster speaking to the sad state of
automatic updates to her personal computer(s) not being maintained.

Unlike MVPs, some in the world don't function in a perpetual first person
mode.

Read the posts again...for the first time.

Also your insults show your own character flaws as well as your
insecurity with your point of view.

Sigh. Seen?

Yes, Seen. You can scan the postings as well as I if you like.
There have been postings from people claiming how fantastically
great the new SP2 is. I think I'm looking at the same SP2 that
they are. There are (almost certainly) completely invisible fixes
for a thousand or more bugs. A few defaults have changed values.
Support for a few things is now integrated, rather than mfgr add-on.
A few features now require extra steps to get it to do what it was
doing before. But I have not Seen anything I can imagine that
these people posting claims about how great it is must have Seen.
Unless, of course, they are just operating with their own agenda.

Not true, MVPs get perks from MS, like free (expensive) software. There is an incentive, and I don't think any one MVP here is altruistic enough to turn down anything from MS, in lieu of voluntary services given.

After reading your posts in this thread, it is clear you want to find the wrong answers of others in attempts to convince yourself what you "DON'T" need. Do yourself a favor, don't install it, and be happy; no one here is going to make anymore than one attempt at convincing someone who will argue against all possible reasoning, as to the reasons why they "DON'T" need something.

With SP2, you're dealing mostly with fixes and security issues.

The one that gets overlooked often is the way it has gone through and
replaced all the many modules that are capable of having 'buffer
over-runs' with ones that have this prevented. That is the major reason
it is so big. And these over-runs have been central to very many of the
vulnerabilities that have then had individual patches. So without in
any way saying it has proofed the system against future attacks, it has
certainly plugged many places that might be picked up to attack non-SP2
systems

Tom;
"perks" is not the same as "paid"
Get a dictionary and learn the difference.
If you are "paid" there is also an obligation.
The thank-you gift comes with no obligation or strings attached.
It is also for the year past with no obligation for the future.
You should really read the link I gave in my last post.

That is an interesting place to get WRONG information.

So tell us, then, why ya'll are ramming an apparently FUBAR service pack
down our throats?

So they get free what we pay for. Oh yeah, that's fair.

If "ramming an apparently FUBAR service pack down our throats?" blame
that on the person between the keyboard and chair on your computer.
That is where the power of installation lies.

As far as "FUBAR" that is a matter of opinion and largely the health
of the computer before starting, again the person between the keyboard
and chair.
Blame that person if SP-2 is installed and you do not want it.

I never said you, or any MVP got paid. I simply countered the difference in getting perks for being MS MVPs. Learn the difference in argumentation! If you had read (again, this is why top posting if frowned upon), I replied to John, and not you.

Your reference to me needing a dictionary shows kind of person you are (just using your example as you do like a mantra when someone makes similar comments to you).

Tom;
You may be replying to John, but you replied to my post.
Top or bottom posting will not change the post you reply.
You apparently selected the wrong post.
Look at the threading, still on this very post.

Then learn the difference between perks and paid (as you stated to me, and the fact that you could reason that my previous post would not have pertained to yours. Your ad-hominem still shows your character!

Nope, I don't work for Microsoft, or anyone else. I've been
retired for almost twelve years. The MVP title is an award for
providing accurate answers on the newsgroups. MVPs are
volunteers, not Microsoft employees.

I say what I believe to be correct, regardless of what Microsoft
says. In some cases, it's the same as what Microsoft says, in
others it's not. As a single example, I've several times said
here that I think WordPerfect is a better word processor than
Microsoft Word.

As I said B4, I have ZoneAlarm, I have
AVG, I have DCOMbobulator, and every check I do @ GRCs 'Sheilds
Up'
gets a passing grade
of TruStealth.

Glad to hear it.

Why would I need it?

Because it contains bug fixes over and above the more
highly-publicized new features. And because there is no downside
to installing it.

But I won't argue with you about it. It's your computer, and you
are free to install or not install whatever you want.

I could not tell you were not replying to me since you posted
incorrectly.
It seemed as you had replied to me until you said otherwise.
Nothing in that post suggested you were not replying to me.

As for the difference, I know the difference, after all I said you
were wrong when it seemed like you were equating perks and paid.

You may need to read the ENTIRE thread again.

Why would I blame myself for choosing not to install a package that I do not
have a need for.
