Hi All,

My computer is completely up to date from Microsoft
including SP1. I use Norton Firewall and Norton Virsus
Protection. Is it a must to install SP2? Thanks in
advance. Oh, from what I read, SP2 is just enhancements
for security firewall and like I mentioned, I use Norton.

Mack,

There is significantly more in SP2 then just an enhanced Firewall
For a complete list of all fixes included in SP2

Also, I did not read the web pages, but if any new
security patches come up, you will need to have SP2
installed before you can install the new patches.

Hi

Not true.

Lifecycle Supported Service Packs
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=lifesupsps

states that WinXP SP1 Pro will be fully supported for 2 years after
the release of SP2, and one year for WinXP SP1 Home.

This means you will get critical security updates for SP1 at least
up to August 2006 (and I would think that this would be relevant
for WinXP SP1 Home as well, as there is very little difference
between Pro and Home in this aspect).

Well, went for it since I received the disk by snail
mail. Installed on two computers and both installs went
flawlessly. Thanks to all for all the input which helped
me in my decision. Made no errors nor change any function
on either machine. Thanks again,

Mack

It's more than just security enhancements, but if you don't want to
install it you don't absolutely have to.

Your experience is consistent with that of the vast majority.

Have you had any problems with your Norton software? Symantec (Norton)
applications were on Microsoft's list of programs that could be affected by
SP2. I actually changed antivirus software (I used to have Norton) before I
got SP2.

Unlike a lot of people, my SP2 hasn't caused me any problems.

Norton AV 2003 is running here with SP2 without problems. YMMV.
