Hello i been haveing troubles downloading the service pack 2 for windows xp.
I been getting the error 8007F0CC about 2 secounds into the download i
tried several times but it does the same thing each and every time . Even
the windows auto update shows that it has failed for the same reason (hints
8007F0CC ). Anyways just want to get this fixed to see if SP2 will help with
my beloved Athlon 64.
That is all

Hey There

I was having the exact same problem, until I read a post on the
Microsoft Newsgroups - have you by any chance a modified boot screen?
Apparently, SP2 won't install if you do - and I had to restore mine.
Once I did, it installed without any problem at all. You don't need to
reformat or reinstall - it's just a quick edit.

Here's a link to my Weblog which has another link to the fix - it
involves editing the boot.ini file, but nothing major.

Good luck!

Well, I had the same problem. I followed Dan's suggestions, however, i
may have just been one of many solutions that eventually led to m
sucessful installation of SP 2. SO, here goes:

I modified my boot.ini according to Dan's previous post, rebooted
tried again, no dice.

I had StyleXP installed, a skinning program for XP, which had modifie
my boot.ini, as well as several other things. I uninstalled this
rebooted, failed with the same error as everyone else on this thread.

Ok, try again. After talking with several people, I was told that i
there were any failed windows updates previous to installing SP 2, SP
will not install. I had a failed DirectX 9.0 security update earlie
that month. So, I went to the Microsoft Download Center and downloade
the entire DirectX 9.0c install file, reinstalled that, rebooted, an
retried the SP2 install. It is installing as I type.

So, it could have been several or all of these problems that led to m
failed install over and over. Ugh. I talked with Microsoft, t
excess, they tell me that Toshiba (my laptop manf.) has a modifie
registry preventing me from installing the SP2. The Toshiba suppor
staff (very nice and helpful) laughed. As did I, but, I must add
microsoft was most unhelpful. I actually solved the problem while o
hold with a "Tech Support Specialist" for 45 minutes.

Hope this helps

Could someone please re-post Dan's link to the boot.ini fix. for som
reason I do not see it

I really need to know Dan's link to the boot.ini fix. too! I also ha
Style XP. I did uninstall it, but the boot files need to be put back t
their original default state.

Thank you. I really did not want to reformat my computer, if tha
wasn't necessary. I do not have any other windows updates that hav
failed.
