Troubles
Sigh...
I updated XP to SP2 and returned to a game, Thief: Deadly Shadows, only to
discover an occasional screen and sound freeze that I had not experienced
before. The only escape was to hold the power button down for 5 seconds or
so and reboot. However, the reboot does not cause chkdsk to run so I
suspect Windows isn't detecting any problem.
Ummm...there probably has been a lot written and/or discussed about various
gaming issues with SP2. And this sort of problem is probably game specific
since other games seem to be working just fine--such as Tiger Woods PGA
Tour 2004.
I'm wondering in general what things I might set differently in XP with SP2
so that a game that is having trouble might run more successfully in SP2
presence??
For instance...if the game is not being played online perhaps disabling my
NIC and then disabling the new improved Windows firewall would make a
difference??
Anything else I might try??
Thank you.
