SP2 Shutdown Issue

C

Chris Sperring

Installed SP2 yesterday, all went when with no apparent problems so far.
However, when shutting down I no longer get the Windows XP splash screen to
say that it's now okay to turn the computer off; The screen just remains
blank. Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I only have a Win2K machine to test APM issues, but maybe it is still the
same.
If you go into Control Panel - Power Options do you have a tab called APM?
If so is there and option to enable Advanced Power Management Support? If
so, is there a check in the box?

No, the tower does not power off.

Hi Chris,

Ok, then that means an application or process is not terminating properly.
What you want to do is begin selectively killing them with Task Manager
befor invoking a shutdown to try and isolate what is causing the holdup.
Once you know what is causing it, resolving it may be much easier.
