Hi
If you have Win XP with SP1 and Windows Messenger 4.7 installed and
then you install SP2 you will have the problem that Windows Messenger
does not log-in automatically anymore when you start Windows. In fact,
in the Options dialogue you cannot activate the "automatic start when
whindows starts" feature. This option is simply not there!
The funny thing is that if you install Windows XP with integrated SP2
the feature is there and works fine. So the problem only occurs when
you install SP2 seperately.
So if you don't want to Format C: and install XP with integrated SP2
here is what to do: All you can do is install Windows Messenger 5 or
5.1. There you have this feature again. And it works fine. I also
managed to install 4.7.2009 or so. There it also worked, but I head
about security problems with that version (Service Pack 2 updates the
4.7 messenger to 4.7.3000 and the February 05 update to 4.7.3001. so I
didnt' want to have 4.7.200x installed and therefore prefer the latest
5.1 version.
Maybe Jonathan could add this information to his very valuable website.
