SP2 Install success

I know that the majority of posts to this forum indicate
problems. I just want to share my success installing SP2
on my production Dell Dimension XPS-T550 system. It is 5
years old, and I was concerned about any problems SP2
would have during its installation and running the Win XP
afterward. I had sucessfully updated the systems on my
Home LAN but these were not a complex as my desktop
system.

The instaallation went without a hitch. Everything runs
as before. My Norton Systemworks 2003 and Norton Internet
Security 2003 firewall works as before as does all the
applications I use everyday.

I guess the lesson is that I treated this update just
like an OS upgrade and went through all the research and
preparation that MS and others have advocated in this
forum.

I also have NSW 03 but when I DL'ed SP2 & installed it I
was getting the "DRIVER_OR_IRQ_NOT_EQUAL" error. Checked
at MS's site & its because of NSW 03 & 04. I had to do a
system restore (Xp Pro) too get my pc back up & running
again. (Intel Celeron = 500 MHz)

Since you successfully installed sp2 on your PC with NSW
03 what steps did you ? If you can give us a step-by-step
that would be great.

Because I don't know why you had a successfully install
with SP2 & NSW 03 & me that I have the samething I get
the error.

Now I know what people are going to say thats because its
my pc & ect well its not, the "DRIVER_OR_IRQ_NOT_EQUAL"
error is caused by Norton Systemworks 03 & 04 & thats
what MS have stated in there page.

Anybody else had a successful install with SP2 & NSW 03
with windows xp & what steps did you do ? I really want
to have sp2 installed.

Yes , now you have win xp firewall, though.. you going to disable it or let
it run, disabling it may cause complications, down the line

I disabled the Windows Firewall just like I did before
SP2.

Ongoing mainteneance:

1. Kept windows XP updated with the latest CRITICAL
fixes.
2. Kept Norton Systemworks and NIS updated with latest
virus definitions and code maintenance.
3. Ran Norton Utiltities Windows repair utility to fix
any problems with my registry regularly.
4. Ran disk cleanup at lerast once per week to keep my
disks free of junk.
5. Full backup once per month and incremental backups
once per week.
6. Ran Spybot (kept current) and Adaware (Kept current)
every week to get rid of any boots or any other crap that
might by spying on me.
7. Weeekly antivirus scans.

Before installation.

1. Disk cleanup
2. Defrag.
3. Shut down all running programs.
4. Ran SP2 update using free CD from MS.
