SP2 Install Problem

VijayS

Hi guys,

Before today, I had SP1 tools + db installed with SP2 RC updates. I was
ready to install SP2 and it was suggested I uninstall the RC first.

I uninstalled the tools and component database, and I tried to install
Eval SP2 using XPEFFI.exe I got from microsoft.embeddedoem.com but I
get the following message:

"THis download tool has detected a licnsed copy of WIndows XP embedded
installed on this computer.

Windows XP embedded licensed OEMS who wish to update to Windows XP
embedded, SP2 Update must visit the restricted access OEM embedded site
at https://microsoft.embeddedoem.com to agree to the license terms and
conditions and download the Windows XP Embedded, SP2 UPdate."

Huh? I uninstalled everything.

I rebooted, I scoured the registry. Am I missing something?
What do I do?

Thanks in advance,
-Vijay

Vijay,

Two things:
- Do you realize that SP2 is installed on the top of SP1?

- Did you manually delete "\Windows Embedded Data" directory and clean up [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Embedded],
[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Embedded] registry after the uninstall?

No, I didn't realise that - but I suspected it to be true after I
uninstalled it

I backed up those things.

Vijay,
I faced the same problem .. Were you using the Eval version of SP1 before??
... then i guess the following lines can be a little useful ..

The download utility that you havem, actually scans your machine for
previous versions of XPe .. And AFAIK, beleives any previous version to be a
licenced copy and hence directs us to the OEM site .. Anyway, what i did
was to copy the download tool into a new computer. And Execute it. It shows
us a list of utilities to be downloaded. Ofwhich you only select, the fourth
option relating to "SP2", given that you already have disk1 and disk2 of SP1
with you ... The downloaded file (disk3) will be saved in the folder,
"program files/windows embedded/installer" asuming you installed XPe there
....

then its all simple ...

reinstall SP1 (tools + database)
then install disk3

Hope this is useful to you ..
