SP2 IE Title Bar Shows URL in addition to Site Title

Installed SP2, like it so far, except.... the IE Title Bar now shows the
http: path, in addition to the page title. I could live with this, I
suppose, except that now, in the Windows taskbar, I can't easily tell what
the various open IE windows are. Instead of the site titles, the url is
there instead (since there isn't much space in the taskbar active program
buttons).

I un-installed SP2, and this oddity disappeared. Re-installed SP2, and it's
back. So it's an SP2 thing, apparently, or maybe just something unusual in
my computer configuration.

Anyone else seeing this IE Title Bar behavior after installing SP2?

Problem solved. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure at this point which
action solved it, but in IE, go to Tools/Internet Options/Security/Internet
Zone/Custom Level. Experiment with enabling some of the options which are
disabled. One of them works to solve the problem. Can't tell you which one
at this point, as I changed about 3 or 4 of them and the problem resolved.
I'll report back when I have time to zero in on the exact one.

Of course, this probably reduces the security level slightly, but running a
firewall, antivirus, and several spyware programs will minimize the risk.

Yep, I am having the same thing and made a post yesterday about it. I
actually called the MS SP2 toll free number and they are claiming it
is "by design" since we, the user, want to verify the domain of each
popup for security purposes. That's fine, but an option to turn it
off would be nice. They claim there is no reg hack either. I guess
we're screwed.

From talking to other folks, and searching the internet, this seems to be a
pretty rare SP2 bug. It's probably limited to particular configurations of
computers, installed software, and alignment of the Planets. Go figure.

But, there is a fix, and it worked for me:

IE/Tools/Internet Options/Security/Internet Zone/Custom Level

Enable the option "Allow script-initiated windows without size or position
constraints".

Of course, one might then be overrun with script-initiated windows that show
no respect for size or position constraints, but... a pop-up blocker would
most likely deal with that.

Thanks for your reply PA Bear; I appreciate the feedback.
