I'm not using SP2's firewall as I'm behind my router's firewall. Is there
risk in doing this? Also, how do I get the OS to stop warning me about this?

Thanks,
David

No. The router's firewall does everything the Windows firewall
does--prevent inbound intrusions. However, neither does what
almost every third-party firewall also does--monitor outgoing
traffic to prevent rogue programs from calling home.

For that reason, I recommend that you run a third-party firewall
in addition to your router, as I do; I'm happy with the free
version of ZoneAlarm here.

Of course one could chose NOT to install phone home programs.

Only if one realizes that that's what the program does.

Care is fine, and we should all be careful what we do on the
internet. There are those however who say you don't need things
like anti-virus programs, or anti-spyware programs; all you need
to do is practice safe computing habits. I've seen couple of
people say that here just today.

Personally, I think that's extremely poor and dangerous advice.
None of us is perfect, and no matter how careful we are, any of
us can make a mistake, particularly if we are tired, not feeling
well, etc. Moreover, the methods of attack against our computers
change daily; the care that's sufficient to protect us today may
not be good enough tomorrow, and we may not change our practices
fast enough for safety.

For those reasons I think that, over and above the care used,
*everyone* should use all the automated protection tools
available.

Personally, I think you are adequately protected provided:

1) The sp2 was installed when your sstem was clean of spyware;
2) you don't visit sordid sites for short time titilations;
3) You don't use Kazaa or Warez for free M$ software on your main/mission critical machine;
4) you have Symantec Norton systems Work 2005 properly installed and autoupdated;
5) you scan your system using Norton Utilities which comes with (4)
6) You stop using Michael Stevens free utility to pirate M$ keys unless it is absolutely necessary!

Hope this proves useful.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

(But thanks for continuing your idiocies; it makes getting your
