SP2 error during install

I am testing installing SP2 on a laptop that was built
using MS select media and an enterprise key (for our org).

I've tried to install windows xp service pack 2 from the
download (Network build) and from the windows xp sp 2 cd
(iso from MSDN). Both result in the same error.

"setup cannot copy the file branches.inf"

The file is present in the directory it looks for.

What could be the problem?

Check file permissions.

Heh. Wish that it was that easy.

Account has local admin permissions. Sufficient space on
both drives to accomodate upgrade. Running windows xp sp1a
