I installed SP2 and the result was that the computer went dead trying to
open Windows Explorer i.e. clicking on folder icon on the desktop like My
Documents. Got message about Dr Watson Debugger.
Have had to restore to pre SP2.
If you scan messages for the last week or so and search for Windows Explorer
you will find a variety of people have had similar problems with this.
If you put SP2 back you can see if the problem appears again.
If it does, then try booting in safe mode and see if it happens there.
You can also try normal mode, create a new user and see if when you
switch to the new user the problem happens or not.
Each of these variations tries to see clues about your problem.
For some folks some of these will work while others do not.
Report back what combination work and what don't.
From the number of people reporting things like this I'm GUESSING
that there are at least a couple of lurking bugs responsible and
that we might hope that someone at MS is going to find and fix
this one soon.
You can escalate the problem to MS if you want,
support.microsoft.com/windowsxpsp2
and give them all the clues you can about what patterns you have.
There is no guarantee their diagnosis will be correct or even
that it won't make things worse, but sometimes it works out.
(mine doesn't accept any clicks or keystrokes, thus can't crash,
but functions in safe mode and in a new user. Nobody has a clue
thus far what that means, but maybe someone is working on it)
