SP2 causing frequent hangups

Since installing service pack 2 on my Windows XP Home
desktop, the computer locks up frequently - even at times
when no applications are open. Prior to SP2, this never
happened. What is going on, and can anything be done
about it short of completely uninstalling SP2?
