can't install SP2

am trying t install SP2 from the SP2 CD i odered, it keeps on giving me this
error message:
"this Service Pack cannot be installed on top of the Windows XP Service Pack
2 build currently installed on your computer, Cancel this installation
process, uninstall you current Windows XP Service Pack 2 build, then
re-install this Service Pack"
i can't uninstall the SP build because i don't know how!!! i tried to seach
the net for solution but they all say i have to reinstall windows and i dont
want to.. i just want to upgrade.
my Windows Version 5.1 (build 2600.xpsp_sp2_beta1.031215-1745 : Service Pack
2, v.

Hi there CrazzyWak,

Try this:

Go to Start>Control Panel>Add Remove Programs
Scroll down and locate the Windows XP Service Pack 2 and click change/remove.
Follow the prompts to perform the uninstall.

Please note that this will only work if you had decided to perform a backup
of the previous configuration when you installed the Service Pack 2 Beta. If
you have declined to do so, the service pack will not uninstall and you will
in fact have to reload your machine.

well, it wasn't me who installed it in the in the first place, and i guess
who did it didn't backup :s
so guess i'll go with the re-installing Windows option

is there a way to make Windows think that there's no SP installed? to force
it to install the new SP2 from the CD,, a workaround in the registry maybe!!!!

Hi there Rami,

Unfortunately I don't believe so. The SP2 installation essentially tears
down the whole OS and does a major installation. It changes a lot of key
files. However, I may be incorrect as to a registry entry to allow the
reinstallation. Anyone?

!!!!!!! Why on earth would you want to install SP2 from the CD(from
somewhere around 2003/2004), as you now have a much more updated version of
it (with patches/hotfixes released after SP2, probably from automatic
updates??)?????????????

because i have 64K VPN in the location of the computer with a restriction on
the download limit per session from the enterprise admin. besides it's not a
problem of updates.. i want to change to SP2 instead of SP2_beta.. many
security option regarding Domain are not available in SP2_beta
