I'm using ACER laptop with Windows XP Home Edition.
A month ago I got a CD from my friend titled Windows XP SP2 beta1, I
installed that CD, after that my Windows became Windows XP Professional with
Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_beta1.031215-1745 (Service Pack 2, v.2055) What it is?
Now I get CD Windows XP Service Pack 2 from Microsoft, but I cannot apply
this CD and got an error message that this service pack cannot be installed
on my computer with current Windows. How I remove that old sp2 beta1 and
install this new CD?
Thanks and regards,
Yudhi

Hi

Uninstall the Beta version first. There should an entry in Add/Remove
Programs for an uninstall option, but make sure that 'Show Updates' is
enabled. Then install SP2 from the CD.

Hello,

Go to Control Panel-Add or Remove Programs-Select Show Updates- Then look
for an entry named SP2 RC1 or SP2 RC2 and uninstall... After this you can
run SP2 installer for the RTM version

Yudhi,

It sounds like your "friend" did not just give you the SP2 Beta - but
actually a potentially pirated copy for Windows XP Professional.
If you definitely now have Windows XP Professional where you had Windows XP
Home Edition and it has not been installed into a new folder then your only
option to remove it and become legal again is to reinstall your own copy of
Windows XP Home Edition. (this may require a reformat and loss of all
installed applications and data if you do not back up the files first.)

Hi

Did you opt to save the uninstall files? If not, the uninstall option won't
be in Add/Remove Programs and you will have to 'Clean' install XP, then use
the SP2 CD to upgrade on top of that.
