SP2 breaks Nero Burning

Just FYI..

I had Nero 6 running on my XP Pro. After install starting Nero produced
a message the version of Nero was not compatible with the version of the
OS. I went to Ahead Software's site and downloaded the latest updates
which installed fine but it still won't burn cds. No errors, just blank
cds.

Sooo if you are running Nero you may want to wait on installing SP2.
Fortunately I have another pc without SP2 and Nero still works on that
one.

No problems with two of my machines with Nero and SP2... I wonder if there
might be something else wrong in your case... Sorry I don't have a
suggestion on what to look for though.

No Problems here with SP2 and Nero. You say blank disks, are you burning
to your burner or the "Image Recorder"?

Actually, there is an update to Nero 6 that fixes incompatibility with
SP2. The patches are on Nero's site, and are free. It's always a good
idea to check with software (and hardware) mftrs. to see if there are
patches when having problems with their products.

Yes those patches are the latest updates I spoke of. The incompatibility
message is gone but... blank cd's. Nero was working JUST fine before
SP2. Auughhhhh!

Ok after uninstall and reinstall and then updates Nero works again. Go
figure. Think I'll wait for the September SP 2 version for my clients
and other pc's, I don't have time for this agita.

Thanks for your replies, your comments inspired me to resolve this issue
instead of giving up and having to use the other pc for burning.

Are you using CD-RW's? I seem to recall that there is still a problem
with InCD, Nero's app that let's you format the rewritables. Since I
don't ever use that, I don't have any information about it, but you
might check on Nero's site again if the rewritables apply to you.

Don't be alarmist! There is nothing wrong with SP2 and/or Nero 6 after all the free downloadable patches. What must be wrong is your brain. It is likely that your brain needs a patch of plastic SP2 to correct this defect. Once you have done this, you will need a basic tutorial in burning CDs.

Hope this helps.

Broomstick,

In England we don't say: "I don't see nothing wrong with that" The correct way is to say: "I don't see anything wrong ...". What you have done is to use double negative which makes your point positive i.e. you do see something wrong in the original postings!. Is that what you meant?

The message was alarmist because he said: " Sooo if you are running Nero you may want to wait on installing SP2." This is clearly not appropriate because one has to be open minded if one has a problem. You don't jump to conclusion that SP2 is faulty and start making recommendations without knowing exactly what the problem is.

Thx for the English lesson. I meant the latter. Haven't had my daily alki

I'm with you. But the poster meant well. Just his ignorance that needs
"enlightenment". That's what we're all here for.
To get & give help where we can. And not to discourage them further.
But as I said I'm with you.

I am not at all clear what the trouble with earlier Nero is supposed to
be on SP2. It may be the interface with WMP to make audio disks, but I
have had no trouble using 6.3.0.2 - six months old - for data disks,
while installing the latest 6.3.1.17 results in another program - PCTV
for a Pinnacle TV card - aborting without warning after any time from 2
secs to a minute

I got the same message when I installed SP2. I went the Nero's site and
grabbed the latest version of just Nero not all the other packages,
installed it and everything is fine.

I don't know what the reason was, Alex, all I know is Nero 6 worked
great until SP2 and then it failed. It's the only app I've had any
problems with after SP2 and even then, it was no big deal. I went to
Nero's site and they said one needed to patch for compatibility with
SP2. I patched, and Nero worked again. I never use WMP, so I don't know
about that.

Cheers,

Malke
