SP2 automatic updates problem

I installed SP2 and it messed up my automatic updates. Prior to install my
settings were to download, but to not install the updates. After installing
SP2 my settings changed to auto download and install updates. All option
boxes were not available, and I had to go into local computer group policies
in order to change it back to download and not install. Anyone else have
this problem? Does microsoft for yet another time force us to use their
"features" that we don't want? This was not the only setting that changed,
it was just the only one that changed and wouldn't let me turn it off.

It now has its very own item in Control Panel.

And all of the options are disabled. I can't turn off automatic updates
without using group policies. And when I use group policies the minimum it
will let me do is have it download and not install. It won't let me turn
them off completely even!

Can you disbale Automatic Updates in services.msc ?

Disabling the Auto Update service in SP2 will make it impossible to get
updates manually. That now needs the AU service up and running, and the
Background Intelligent Transfer (BITS) on auto or on manual so it can be
started as wanted

In that case the Auto Update *service* may already be off. Go in IE to
Tools - Windows Update and see if it complains that the service is not
running.

I have my auto update turned off and no problems with Windows Update, either
from the Help console or IE.

Actual , I was asking Tim if he could disable Automatic Updates in
services.msc

He wants it shut off,

He cant get it on manual.

Is it supposed to be like this? Am I now forced to use group policies msc
to shut off auto updating?
