Just downloaded SP2.
However I have McAfee Security, which now seems to be an unnecessary
duplication- what do you think?
Thanks, John

It's a toss up given the problems that come from both
sources of software.

I would disable the XP security features and run the
McAfee programs, and then disable the McAfee and enable
the XP security features.

Run both for long enough to see how much security they
provide. How many worms, etc., your system gets infected
with.

Then you can judge which offers the best protection.

But I certainly wouldn't have both running.

Aside from the fact that McAfee sucks, their firewall does work both with
incoming and outgoing protection whereas XP's "firewall" only protects from
incoming. I would disable XP's firewall and go with McAfee or another,
decent, firewall.

Thanks for that...whatabout Norton Anti-Virus..friend has that already
installed..do you recommend he sticks with that or uses the SP2 feature?
Thanks.
John

He should use Norton but make sure he gets the SP2 update from Symantec's
web site.
