.sp1?

i have an xp home cd, not the upgrade.

after selecting the ntfs (quick).. going through a step or
two after that, i get an error message saying something
about setup can't install the sp1 file or something like
that. i could be way off.. i can't recall. (i left my
notes at home)

but isn't that something to do with the upgrade? i'm lost.

If you are using the setup boot disks, you have the wrong set.
If your Windows XP includes SP1, make sure you download
the setup boot disks for SP1.
