I have attempted for months to install Windows XP HE
SP1 with the same results: upon reboot my computer hangs
at the Windows Splash screen with the moving horizontal
bar frozen. I have tried a Windows repair, a Windows
clean re-install, safe mode and even purchased Windows XP
Professional upgrade CD with SP1 with the same results. I
have disconnected all USB devices except my mouse when
installing. My computer is a Gateway 2000 700X 1800GHz
with 1 GB RDRAM with many GB's of free hard drive space.
I have an ATI Radeon 8500 AIW video card with the newest
drivers. I have a Soundblaster Live Value card. I have a
Toshiba cable modem for internet access. I even purchased
new RAM chips and swapped after reading a suggestion in
this forum.
Finally, I have both Norton Antivirus and SystemSuite
Antivirus installed but disabled both before proceeding.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Mike
