SP1 Update in a nutshell (sort of)

Ok I had some problems. But all counted they were few.
Free Zone Alarm for Vista needed to be re-downloaded and
installed. I never found their 'updates'. So the download worked fine.
SP1 also had added a mysterious second network adapter. After removing
both of them, and rebooting, Vista automatically re-installed the
correct NIC driver and that began to work as well.
This is almost a full day later from my previous problems and all
seems to be working fine now.

I also noted that on MS website they HIGHLY recommend waiting for the
SP1 update using 'Windows Update' available middle of next month.
I'm guessing that is because they still need to fine tune some
problems as well as add last minute updates to driver sets.

Since I personally was impatient and wanted SP1 NOW, I feel I didn't
get wronged too bad by MS.

Teckies love this stuff but I doubt this is quite ready for the
average Vista users in general.

Bottom line....If you don't mind trouble shooting problems and
oddities, then download their version now.

I do find it interesting though that this 5 language version did not
work at all on my Vista Ultimate PC at work. It would not even
install.

I downloaded the huge sp1 file and installed it a couple of days ago.
Everything seems fine and the system even seems faster overall.

....except for possibly one thing...

Before I applied sp1 I was using ReadyBoost with a 4gb flash drive and it
worked just fine. Since applying sp1 the drive will not run ReadyBoost and
the OS says that its because it's not fast enough. I went into the
ReadyBoost event log and sure enough, it appears that it onlys tests out at
about 64kbps and also says that it isn't consistent across the device.

Today I started a backup to a USB drive and noticed that it was very, very
slow. It appears that it is never getting over 1.5 mbps on a file copy.

Has anyone else noticed any USB slowdowns since applying sp1? I hate to
restore to pre-sp1 just to confirm this change.

Thanks in advance,

Howard

Do yourself a favour and remove ZA (aka Illusion ware) from your OS:

Because you are not going to find anything better than the Vista FW and
Vista in itself due to the advanced features the FW and Vista are using.

"If you try to block outbound connections from a computer that’s already
compromised, how can you be sure that the computer is really doing what you
ask? The answer: you can’t. Outbound protection is security theater—it’s a
gimmick that only gives the impression of improving your security without
doing anything that actually does improve your security. This is why
outbound protection didn’t exist in the Windows XP firewall and why it
doesn’t exist in the Windows Vista™ firewall."
