SP1 & SP2

If I'm starting from scratch with a new hard drive and a clean installation
of XP Pro, do I still need to install service pack 1 before service pack 2,
or does SP2 contain everything I need ?

SP2 replaces SP1 in its entirety, therefore only install SP2.

If you wish, you can create a SP2 "slipstreamed version"
of Windows XP, thus allowing SP2 to be installed at the
same time.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

Steve;

XP Pro followed by SP2 has everything you need, for the moment. You don't
need to slipstream anything now, just keep up with the Windows updates.
