sp1 fed up

like many others Ive done exactly what the instructions told me to do, in
regard to updates for my vista home basics 32 bit and I still get failed
install. Ive been trying to update using the automatic updateing and
manualy, also had discussions with IT people and other technical support
going through my computer to see if they could fix the problem of why it will
not download. Ive cleaned files out and disks, as advised, printed out
instructions (have paper everywhere). the SP1 will still not download, and
now on tune up with live one care my security is fair instead of good,
becausse of this update not downloading

Have you tried downloading the standalone version from MS downloads?

I suggest that you stop all programs and also all background programs
before installing, just to be safe.

For your information and consideration:
"...A more serious problem with URL resolvers in general is that they
create a single point of failure for all URLs passed through the service."

From the run box type "msconfig" and change the startup option to
"diagnostic startup". Reboot, and then try the install.

I had to disable my firewall (I did enable the Windows firewall, however)
before SP1 would install. However, I was able to download the update.
