I have a SiS 7012 sound card which is on the mother board. When I updated
driver, I no longer hear music at windows start up and shutdown even though
they will play when I test them in sounds in control anel.

In Control Panel (XP Pro) Sound and Audio Devices Properties, do you see the
Program events: for Exit Windows (with the WIndows XP Shutdown.wav) choosen?
if not, click the Browse... button and select it. Same thing but for Start
Windows or Windows XP Startup.wav

Hope that helps or is what you wanted.
I don't know about SiS nor why it might have altered it.

As mentioned, they work in sound and audio and therefore are checked. Just
don't work when starting up or shutting down.

Maybe it has nothing to do with the SiS sound card and is corrupt windows
files.
