Audio Driver - No sound

G

Guest

I recently had to purchase a new hard drive. Once it was installed and I
reinstalled Windows XP my sound quit working. It worked fine before the hard
drive crashed. I have a SiS 7012 Audio Device. I have tried to download the
driver from various sites, but I keep getting error messages.
Any suggestions, other than buying a new sound card? What audio devices are
compatible with XP?

You download drivers from your hardware manufacturers sites, or PC supplier
if a Laptop or large OEM eg Dell, HP etc
As I believe yours is onboard sound, from your motherboard site where you
would likely need to install the chipset drivers also

Thanks, but my computer was built by an individual. He gave me all of the
CD's for the programs he loaded but I didn't see one for the audio device.
I tried checking with the ECS site (motherboard manufacturer) and it still
wouldn't download.

If he gave you all the cd's there should have been one from the motherboard
manu for the drivers

That didn't work, I've tried that several times. The error message I get is:

Update driver for plug and play device
-536870397
Then it closes.

To make sure we're on the same wavelength, when exactly do you get the error, when
attempting to download or when attempting to install/update the drivers? From all of
my searches on "Update driver for plug and play device-536870397" is an error when
installing/updating drivers, not downloading files.

Knock Knock. Cowgirl, are you still around or did you muck with a big mean ol'
bull and got horned.

We have one more if your actual problem is getting the files downloaded, if you'd
like I can email them to you. Don't worry about the size, I will split the 7+ MB
files into smaller chunks to avoid any transport issues, I will also include any
instructions if needed.
If you would like me to email them to you, go to the link under my sig and send me
an email using the link on the page just above the menus. You will need to send the
email from a valid email address of yours in order for me to send you the files,
otherwise you will never receive them and they'll bounce back or wind up in
cyber-who-knows-where.
