Sounds won't play

Hi. I insert sounds from Movies and Sounds as usual, but the sound won't play
either automatically or on click. I have resorted to inserting the file as an
Object, then applying custom animation, which works, but I can't hide the
icon, only make it very small.

I'm running PP2003 and it used to work fine but I have a new PC and did a
fresh install, so is there an option I've missed somewhere?

Thanks Austin, I did that and MCI player opens and plays the files. However,
if I insert the clip from the Movies and Sounds menu it won't play either
auto or on click, but insrted as an object it will. I did a detect and
repair, but no change.

That's very strange, I've never had a clip fail to play in PPT if it plays
in the MCI player. My next suggestion is to download (your current version,
not an upgrade) of Windows Media Player and reinstall it. This should
correct any file association or codec issues.

You could of course use PFCMedia or PFCPro to get around these sorts of
issues and automate the entire thing. <g>

Very strange indeed. I re-installed Powerpoint/WMP etc. Still no joyt. Then I
tried to do the same with clips from the Media Clip collection and they
worked. I tehn tried other sound files that I have saved and they worked. The
ones I wanted to use still wouldn't, although they were .wav files the same
as some of the others.

I copied them into a new folder, resaved that elesewhere and, hey presto,
they now work OK. Bizarre or what?

Thanks for your help anyway.

I had the same issue. I could insert sounds, but they just would not
play at all in PP2003.

But similar to Paul, when I created a new folder, and put the sounds
and presentation file into that new folder, and then opened the ppt
and inserted the sounds from that folder, everything worked normally.

Very strange.
