MP3 play automatically

Client is using WinXP/Office 2K3. Has both his presentation and the MP3 file
saved in My Documents folder. Inserts the file using Insert, Movies and
sounds. Selected option to have sound play automatically. Custom animation is
set at After Previous. When in slide show view, sees the sound icon - sound
does not play automatically. When right clicks on the icon and then clicks
away, sound plays. Changed animation to With previous - sound does not play
at all.

What if they put the MP3 first in the line of animations in the task pane
and set it to "with previous"?

They are testing the sound in a blank presentation on slide 2. There are no
other animations on the slide. We tried changing it to "with previous" but
then the sound won't play at all. When testing, we start with slide 1 and
then advance to slide 2. Thanks for any other suggestions you may have!

oooh, so the problem is a "sound across slides" one.

Head to http://www.pptfaq.com and put Sound Across Slides in the search box
(no quotation marks or anything). You should see a FAQ that will help you.

Yes, ultimately they will want the music to play across slides so that link
may become useful. The current problem is getting the MP3 file to play
automatically when moving to slide #2. The music will play with the animation
set to "after previous" but only after right clicking on the sound icon and
then clicking away. When changing the animation to "with previous", the music
does not play at all. The only other option is "on mouse click" and he does
not want that either.

Thanks for all your help!

Okay, the way I read your posts is you inserted a sound on slide 1 and you
need it to continue playing on slide 2, but you actually reinserted it. If
you want the music to play starting on slide 1 and continuing to slide 2,
then go read that FAQ -- n it should resolve your issue. You wouldn't insert
the sound on both slides.

If that's not what's happening, then let's start over with the problem
description. You need to be specific when describing what's happening
there -- what slides the sounds are inserted on and what you want to happen.
Remember, we can't see what is happening, so you have to be our eyes.

The sound is inserted on slide #2. When moving from slide 1 to slide 2, we
want the music to begin playing automatically without having to click on the
sound icon on slide 2. I hope this is clearer.

Thanks! I was totally misreading your question!

I can't think of anything that would keep the sound from playing
automatically, but allow it to play when clicked.

Only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to create a folder on
the C drive -- C:\test or something short and sweet like that -- put both
the PPT file and the sound file in that folder, and reinsert the sound into
the presentation. This would resolve any issues with long path length,
although I don't really think that's the problem here.

There's no sound on slide 1, is there? It's possible that the system is
balking trying to play 2 sounds if one is playing on slide 1 and still
continuing to play on slide 2....
