i bought a toshiba laptop already installed with a chinese
(mandarin) version of Windows XP Pro, when i upgraded it
to an english version of XP Pro (that i bought) all the
sound and video drivers stopped working. Whenever i now
try to play a game, the computer immediately blue-screens
and crashes. Also, no sounds (except the occasional system
beep) can be played from anywhere.

i went to Start>Run>dxdiag and it could not detect
anything under display or sound. After upgrading Direct X
to 9.0b (from 8.1) using the microsoft website, it DOES
detect a graphics card/driver, but still crashes
immediantely after i test DirectDraw/Direct 3D or when i
try to open any application requiring (as i understand it)
a graphics card

I suggest to go to the Toshiba support page and download
the correct English drivers for your machine

If you upgraded or changed one XP ver for another then you have to
reinstall the video and audio drivers
that should be on a CD that came with the Laptop or you can possibly get
from Toshiba's website.
