sound vanished-any help?

I'm reposting since there's been no response to my
earlier post.

Sound problems galore. First my on board sound quit
working(device manager reported that the driver was
installed and working properly). So I uninstalled it and
let it reinstall to see if it would come around, it
didn't. So I disabled the on board codecs and installed a
PCI sound card(ancient), which didn't work. I then
uninstalled the old card and installed a newer card. No
sound still. Device manager reports that the driver is
enabled but has not been started. Huh?? How do you start
a driver?
And for some reason I've begun to lose my drivers for my
video card and both my CD-RW and DVD drives as well. Now
when I uninstall the display card, CD-RW and DVD drivers,
after reboot everything is fine, until I have to reboot
again.
Kinda lost here.
Any help would be appreciated.

The same thing is happening to me ..
It seems that i am having a problem with the Plug and Plas software device
enumerator. This gives a code 31. and when i try manually reinstalling or
removing adding it i get he same error.. my sound card cannot load its
drivers..
