Sound skips like record stuck

When I turn on the computer it skips thru the tune at
start up and gets stuck on one note for a while until it
skips to the next note. I does that on the DVD as well.
I upgraded the memory and it still does it. When I play
a song on media player it doesn't do it. HELP!!!
