Sound Settings

I installed 2000 when I didn't have any speakers. When I
got some speakers, it says no sound device is located or
something like that. So how would I get it to recognise
my new speakers?

Sound device is not speakers, it refers to yr sound card, or onboard sound.
You need to install sound drivers for yr specific sound device, that are
win2k compatible.

Hi DL,

sorry to bother you about this but you seem to know more
on this topic than most around here. :)

I have read your helpful post regarding the sound card
issue after upgrading to 2000.

Would it be possible you could give a bit more insight for
me?

I had someone upgrded from 98 to 2000 for me.

I have an ess allegro pci audio wdm but system is not
finding it.

After looking in the "Add Remove Hardware" sections and
everywhere else it's as if the card is nowhere to be found.

How can I first locate it to make sure it's still in
system?

Could you clarify where to go or what you mean in this
previous post?

I am new at this techie stuff and just dont understand
where you mean to go get the drivers as you say in this
other post that reads....

"if desktop, for mobo intergrated drivers the mobo site,
for cards the card manu.site.
Do NOT use winupdate for drivers, use only manu.web site
drivers.

Thanks much for any ideas and your help.

Jim

Your Audio device appears to be a combined audio/modem, and if I'm reading
the web site correctly are onboard, ie a chip on the motherboard.

You can simply check as to whether you have a Card as apposed to onboard
sound by either opening yr PC case - ensure pwr off at mains - or where you
plug speakers in, if its a card it should be obvious.
The site also states ESS only manufactures the chip, and as such it advises
that drivers be first sought from the Card or mobo manu.

The following free software will reveal much about yr system, ie
manufactures of the hardware etc
